Health

Medical & Dental

You and any eligible dependents have a choice of health and dental plans. You have 60 days to enroll from date of hire. California Prison Health Care Services makes monthly contributions toward your health and dental premiums; your costs depend on the plan chosen. Effective the first day of the month following receipt of your enrollment form.

Vision

Your Vision Service Plan provides an annual eye exam and one pair of glasses or contact lenses each calendar year. Your co-pay is $10 toward the exam, and $25 toward the glasses or contact lenses. Enrollment is automatic.


Financial Security

Retirement

Depending on classification and eligibility, you’ll be enrolled in the CalPERS State Safety or Industrial Plan. Enrollment upon qualification.

Savings +

This voluntary, long-term savings program will supplement your retirement income and is coordinated through Department of Personnel Administration (DPA). You may enroll in the Deferred Compensation Plan (457) or the Thrift Plan (401K). . Enrollment is voluntary.

Flex-Elect

You can set aside part of your wages in a "reimbursement account" to pay for certain expenses. Two types of accounts are offered: "Medical & Dental" and "Dependent Care." These accounts offer a significant tax advantage and may increase your take home pay. Subject to an open enrollment period, and sponsored by the DPA. Enrollment is voluntary.

Long-Term Care

This program assists those with chronic medical conditions that require help performing the activities of daily life. Those eligible include you, your spouse, your parents and parents-in-law. Sponsored by the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Enrollment is voluntary.

License Renewal Fee Reimbursement

Reimbursement policy varies by classification and bargaining unit. Dependent upon qualification.

Home Loan (CalPERS)

Purchase or refinance a home with security, protection and choice — from among more than 40 approved lenders. Sponsored by PERS. Dependent upon qualification.


Time Off

Leave Credits

Annual Leave, Sick Leave and Vacation. You’ll accumulate hours based on full- or part-time schedule, length of state service, and bargaining unit agreement. Dependent upon qualification.

Holidays

You’ll receive 13 paid State holidays each year, plus a personal holiday earned each fiscal year.
